Increase in FEE-HELP loan fee for undergraduate students – update on the Increased Loan fee legislation
NOTE: The Fee-HELP loan fee will now NOT increase from 1 July 2010.
On 2 November 2009 the Government announced that, subject to the passage of legislation, the FEE-HELP loan fee was to increase to 25 per cent for undergraduate units of study with census dates on or after 1 July 2010. Debate of the Higher Education Support Amendment (FEE-HELP Loan Fee) Bill 2010 did not occur in the Senate’s winter sittings. The proposed amendment is not intended to operate retrospectively, and therefore the increased fee will NOT take effect from 1 July 2010.
The sector will be advised of updated information regarding the increase to the loan fee as it becomes available.
