About the Australian National University
Education at The Australian National University (ANU)
offers students an experience unlike that at any other Australian university. ANU is an education-intensive research institution, where developing individual talents to the fullest extent possible through the quality of the learning experience is our highest educational priority.
Consistently ranked as Australia’s leading research university and one of the top research universities in the world, ANU offers the chance to study alongside some of the world’s greatest minds.
Rankings of A1 in the Australian Government's Learning and Teaching Performance Fund 2008 recognise the ANU focus on quality in the students' learning experience.
Through educational partnerships with some of the world’s finest universities, ANU provides its students with opportunities for international experiences and ensures that our educational standards are commensurate with the world’s best.
Australia ’s only truly national university, ANU was established by the Australian Parliament in 1946 to enhance the economic, social, cultural and intellectual development of the nation.
Located on a picturesque 145-hectare site in the heart of Canberra, the nation’s capital, ANU is a coveted destination for students, offering research-led programs, outstanding access to study resources including academic skills and learning centres, and an enviable student experience.
The University provides state-of-the-art technology, including well-equipped lecture theatres, computing and laboratory facilities, five main libraries and a wide choice of accommodation options.
Adjacent to the city centre, the campus offers easy access to a wide range of shops, restaurants, sporting and medical facilities.
ANU makes moving to Canberra easy by guaranteeing accommodation to new domestic undergraduate students who are from outside the Canberra region. For more information on how to take up this great offer, visit http://accom.anu.edu.au .
Constantly striving to improve the quality of its research and teaching, the University conducted an extensive review of quality in 2004, involving assessments by hundreds of national and international academics. Well over 70 per cent of international experts asked to assess ANU research in preparation for the review ranked ANU as one of the top 50 universities in their field — with 40 per cent placing ANU in the world’s top 25.
The university is focused on continuing to strive for excellence in all it does and has forged close links with government, business and research institutions in Australia and abroad. The University is involved in collaborative projects with organisations ranging from NASA to the European Union, and is a founding member of the International Alliance of Research Universities .
