About the Cairnmillar Institute School of Counselling and Psychotherapy Pty Ltd
People choose to study at the Cairnmillar Institute School of Counselling and Psychotherapy
because of its consistent quality of service since 1961.Our former students, as well as our clients and supporters attest to that.
Cairnmillar’s teaching staff bring to our programs an enthusiasm and a very personal concern for each student. Their teaching and supervision work have a strong basis in their rich and varied practical experience. From the outset students are taught the sensitivities and responsibilities as well as the privilege of psychological, counselling and psychotherapeutic practice.
Cairnmillar will offer a Master of Psychology degree for the first time in 2010. Counselling psychologists provide assessment, counselling, and psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, children and groups. They work with a range of mental health and psychological issues.
The program will prepare students for professional practice as counselling psychologists. Students participate in supervised work placements, undertake qualitative or quantitative research into aspects of psychological counselling, such as the therapeutic process, experiences of clients and therapists, change processes, differing presenting issues and studies of treatment outcome. Students also undertake a course work component.
The Master of Psychotherapy program provides advanced training in specific areas of psychotherapeutic and psychological practice. It is designed for people wishing to pursue additional in-depth study and training. It is strongly oriented toward supervised practical work involving personal development, clinical demonstrations and systematic reference to relevant theory.
The Graduate Diploma of Psychotherapy has a strong vocational emphasis, where students learn how to integrate theoretical constructs, gain increased personal knowledge, increase their insight and understanding as well as developing their professional skills. The Graduate Certificate of Counselling and Psychotherapy program builds on the student’s basic knowledge and skills, leading them to a deeper understanding of applied counselling and psychotherapeutic practice.
Our Masters and Graduate Diploma degrees can provide the required training and supervision to register as a psychologist to students with an APAC accredited 4th year.
We ensure that all of our students benefit from an in-depth experience and will carry into their working life the key values Cairnmillar espouses.
In all of its work, Cairnmillar is proud of its unique and pioneering history and it values the association of many people over the years.
