About Macquarie University
Macquarie University
at age 40 is innovative, research-driven, flexible, interdisciplinary, richly international and boldly entrepreneurial. Macquarie – Australia’s Innovative University – wins top ratings for research grants, research intensity, student demand, cultural diversity, graduate starting salaries, non-government earnings and all categories of student services.
Macquarie is located on beautiful park-land grounds just 15kms from Sydney’s centre, shortly to be connected with an on-campus railway station and train connection to the city. Its programs cover disciplines in science and technology, commerce and management, and humanities and social sciences.
Flexibility is a special feature: flexible interdisciplinary programs reflect the unity of knowledge, flexible learning approaches support students learning at their own pace in the style and place that suits them, backed up by a user-friendly library, strong on-line technology and information facilities, and top rate student services.
Ranked in the world’s top 100 universities (THES, 2004), Macquarie has around 30,000 students, with 35% at postgraduate level and 30% from overseas, making a lively multicultural environment with extensive social, cultural and sporting services. Comprehensive travel scholarships support students to study abroad as part of their Macquarie experience, and around 20% of undergraduates seize this opportunity.
Macquarie embodies the vital connections between teaching, research and community engagement. It is a leader in the information and biotechnology revolution, based on national research centres and the Research Park on campus in the middle of Australia’s high technology precinct. There are teaching clinics in psychology, audiology, speech pathology and chiropractic, and a special school assisting children with learning difficulties, especially literacy problems. Macquarie’s library, galleries, museums and sculpture park are a cultural resource for the region.
