Monash has built a strong international reputation in research and scholarship especially in fields such as stem cell science, nanotechnology, reproductive biology, drug development and discovery, and injury prevention and road safety. Australia's first national synchrotron – a revolutionary scientific facility that will become a crucial tool for research scientists - is located on Monash's doorstep and is scheduled to open in 2007.
Monash academics publish some 5000 research works annually and the university has research links with more than 110 institutions throughout Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East.
