About East Coast Gestalt Training Incorporated

East Coast Gestalt You are now leaving Going to Uni has three campus through which it offers the Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Therapy: Wollongong, Sydney and Lismore.

The programme runs for four years part-time, and graduates are eligible for accreditation with GANZ (Gestalt Australia and New Zealand).

The training is a mix of academic and experiential, with an emphasis on personal development and skills training. Staff are drawn from both locally and internationally recognised Gestalt trainers.

The institution is committed to high standards of excellence, responsiveness to student needs, and keeping abreast of cutting edge knowledge and practices in the field.

Gestalt therapy is an action approach to authentic living that emphasises dynamic, present centred awareness rather than abstract analysis. It is a psychotherapy of growth, not one of illness and pathology. As such, the focus is upon creative adjustment and the facilitation of ongoing maturation throughout one’s life.

The Gestalt approach:
  • Is grounded in the here and now – attending to the completion of ‘unfinished business’.
  • Emphasises that each person is responsible for his or her own destiny – this is seen as a key to achieving maturity.
  • Respects each person as the best expert on themselves - rather than starting with the therapist’s insight and answers, value is placed on the client's perception of reality.
  • Supports genuine encounter- the vividness and immediacy of direct contact is utilised as a potent force for change. Facilitates the “re-owning” process - accepting all aspects of self without judgement.
  • Utilises in the paradox of change - which results not from striving to be different, but from accepting fully what is. Change then becomes inevitable.
