About the University of Notre Dame Australia
The University of Notre Dame Australia
is a small, private Catholic University committed to ensuring that students receive a personalised, high quality education. It offers a caring and friendly learning environment, providing courses that are challenging, relevant and responsive to student, employer and community needs. The University has four campuses, one in the historic port city of Fremantle, one in the beautiful coastal town of Broome in north-west Western Australia and two campuses in Sydney which offically opened in 2006.
The University of Notre Dame Australia was founded through an Act of the Western Australian Parliament in 1989 and Notre Dame (Fremantle) commenced teaching in 1992. The Fremantle campus now has approximately 5000 students enrolled in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Business, Education, Health, Law, Medicine Science, and Theology. Although it is a private University, some courses attract Government funding in the form of Commonwealth Supported places and most other course fees are HECS equivalent. In 2007 and 2008 the University was awarded five-star ratings from the Australian Good Universities Guide for graduate satisfaction, teaching quality, graduate outcomes, graduate employment and development of generic skills.
The University Of Notre Dame’s admission policy extends beyond the use of a single score like the Tertiary Entrance Rank for admission. The University believes that although this score is important it should not be the sole determinant for admission. Notre Dame considers academic results and records, motivation, willingness to participate along with personal qualities and accomplishments as a true indication of a student's ability to succeed at University.
Number of Available Higher Education Places
In 2007, UNDA had 4,579 student places (EFTSU) or 5,868 enrolments (numbers).
National Priority Places
In 2007, UNDA will have a total of 1,300 EFTSLs of Commonwealth Supported Places in the areas of Teaching, Nursing and Medicine.
This will rise to 1,924 EFTSLs in 2008
Additional support will be provided for areas identified by the Australian Government as National Priorities. Teaching and nursing have been identified as initial key areas of National Priority, to ensure an adequate supply of high quality graduates for Australia’s schools and hospitals. The figures above refer to additional National Priority places only and do not indicate the total number of nursing or teaching places offered by this provider.
