Based in Brisbane, Jazzworx! Music Institute is Queensland’s largest and most established music institutes specialising in all things jazz. Jazzworx! is recognised and respected as a provider of higher music education of excellent quality. Our teaching leads in the education of jazz professionals and our practice and (eventually our) research is acclaimed, nationally and internationally. Jazzworx! strives to make a distinctive difference to the preservation and promotion of all aspects of jazz and related styles of music through a higher education program of excellent calibre, combining study and performance opportunities for aspiring specialist jazz and improvising musicians. Jazzworx! Music Institute offers a Bachelor of Music In Jazz Performance, a three year full time course. The course is divided into three study areas: Performance, Core Studies and Creative Studies and covers the following subjects –
- The practical areas of Principal Study, Contemporary Practice, Ensemble and Improvisation Techniques.
- Complimented by academic subjects, Aural & Analysis and Jazz Materials, designed to accelerate aural comprehension in improvisation and equip students with detailed analytical knowledge and conceptual understanding of the development of jazz styles.
- Jazz in Context investigates the relationship of jazz to its historical and social circumstances.
- Repertoire applied in Principal Study and Ensemble will become the focus of learning and analysis in Core Studies subjects where ever appropriate.
- The repertoire lists for Principal Study in each semester form the foundation of material studied in other subjects, for example Aural Analysis, Improvisation and Jazz Materials.
