About the University of Queensland
The University of Queensland (UQ)
is one of Australia's leading universities, with a domestic and international reputation for research and teaching excellence. It is the largest and oldest university in Queensland and continues to attract the vast majority of the state's highest academic achievers.
UQ employs more than 6,100 staff. The University's seven faculties and 32 schools offer more than 370 programs and 5,600 courses to over 40,000 students, including 8,800 international students. Students are based at UQ’s four south-east Queensland campuses of St Lucia, Ipswich, Gatton and Herston. Each campus offers a distinctive community lifestyle, first-class facilities and a beautiful, safe and modern environment for work, study and recreation.
The University is a founding member of the Group of Eight, a national alliance of research-strong "sandstone" universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions which are genuinely world class. Internationally, UQ is a member of Universitas 21, a select alliance of research-intensive universities dedicated to world-best practice.
UQ is ranked among the nation’s top two or three research universities on most performance indicators. UQ is building a cluster of international-quality research centres and institutes that will keep it at the frontiers of emerging research fields.
UQ’s graduates have a strong record of attaining employment and income levels well above the national average. UQ qualifications are highly regarded by employers, and graduates have many strong networks in industries in Australia and internationally. In recent years, the international standing of UQ has been reinforced with a sustained growth in students from abroad, as well as strong growth in postgraduate student enrolments.
Number of Available Higher Education Places
In 2010, UQ is funded for 20,001 places under its CGS Agreement, with 572 places in the Priority area of Education, and 448 places in the Priority area of Nursing.
