About the Australian Lutheran College

Australian Lutheran College (ALC)You are now leaving Going to Uni is the tertiary educational institution of the Lutheran Church of Australia.  It began to operate under this name from 1 January, 2004, and was formerly known as Luther Seminary.  The beginnings of ALC go back to the concerns of Lutherans in Australia in the 1840s to educate people for service in the church and society.

ALC serves the ministry and mission of the Lutheran Church of Australia through the preparation and ongoing education of men and women for service in the church and for witness to the wider community.  This involves the provision of appropriate ministry programs and degree and award courses related to a variety of ministry opportunities, including those of pastors, teachers, faith community nurses and other parish workers.  These ministry programs and the related degree and award courses attempt to meet the expanding vision of the church in its mission to an ever-changing, complex and diverse post-modern world.

The spiritual and professional formation of students is of primary concern.  Pastoral care and field experiences are designed to help students faithfully and creatively to meet the challenges of ministry as they grow in the ability to reflect on their studies and service in the light of the Christian gospel.

ALC also offers degree and award courses for students wishing to study theology for their own interest and development.  Accredited courses are available at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  As a registered training organisation, ALC is also able to accept international students into its courses.
