About Flinders University

Established in 1966, Flinders UniversityYou are now leaving Going to Uni occupies an attractive site south of the city of Adelaide. A medium-sized institution, the main campus is located alongside a 500-bed public hospital that houses the medical school.

Flinders is everything a modern university should be - progressive and dynamic yet still friendly and accessible. We offer a vibrant and stimulating environment in which to work or study and have a long-held reputation as the "students' university".

We also have a number of external teaching facilities in regional South Australia, south-west Victoria and the Northern Territory.

We are committed to innovation, excellence and equity in all that we do and are particularly proud of our range of special access schemes that encourage and support students from non-traditional backgrounds.

We offer more than 200 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as higher degree research supervision across all disciplines. Many courses use new information and communication technologies to supplement face-to-face teaching and provide flexible options.

International students make up 13% of our on-campus student population and we also offer a number of offshore programs.

We also have a high research profile and consistently rank among Australia's top universities on a per capita basis for research spending and for the citation of our work in professional journals. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration between disciplines.

Flinders University has proven its promotion of high quality teaching and learning practice.  Flinders boasts four wins at the 2006 Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching.  This included, for the second time in three years, The Prime Minister's Award for the Australian University Teacher of the Year. And in 2006 Flinders was the most successful South Australian University in the allocation of Federal Performance Funding that rewards excellence in teaching and learning.

Number of Available Higher Education Places
In 2006, Flinders had 10,891 places (EFTSU) (15,675 student numbers).

New National Priority Places
Flinders received 10 new regional nursing places (EFTSU) in 2004, increasing to 27 new places after 4 years.
In 2005, Flinders received 75 new nursing places (EFTSL), rising to 205 new places in 2008.
In 2005, Flinders received 65 new teaching places (EFTSL), rising to 178 new places in 2008.

Additional support will be provided for areas identified by the Australian Government as National Priorities. Teaching and nursing have been identified as initial key areas of National Priority, to ensure an adequate supply of high quality graduates for Australia’s schools and hospitals. The figures above refer to additional National Priority places only and do not indicate the total number of nursing or teaching places offered by this provider.
