About the Australian Institute of Public Safety (AIPS)
Established in 1990, the Australian Institute of Public Safety
is an Australian owned independent tertiary education provider offering a range of degree and graduate qualifications in criminal justice, public safety and security. The undergraduate degree programs commenced in 2001, and graduate courses will be available from 2005.
All higher education courses are accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority and are offered on both a full-time and part-time basis. The resulting qualifications are equivalent in every way to those obtained from a University.
The Institute is centrally located in the Melbourne CBD. The student population is approximately 300 students, so classes tend be small, the learning environment is personalised and students are known by all staff.
Teaching staff are all highly academically qualified in a relevant discipline and also have extensive practical experience as professionals in their area of expertise. Students are thus taught by lawyers, psychologists, criminologists and police officers. In addition to the comprehensive theoretical and academically sound education necessary for a career in the field, a practical focus is provided by way of guest speakers, excursions and work placements in areas such as prisons, federal and state police forces and the courts.
Graduates of the courses will have world standard qualifications that are widely recognised by professional agencies and major employers within various fields. The Institute’s graduates have been extremely successful in obtaining employment in areas such as Victoria Police, Corrections (Community Corrections and Prisons), Juvenile Justice custodial facilities, Courts, Customs and Security management.
