About the University of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne
is a multi-campus university of over 43,000 students, 8000 of whom are international students. Its main campus has been situated on the edge of the CBD at Parkville for 150 years.
The University of Melbourne is Australia’s leading research university, based on the Commonwealth Government’s key indices of research performance. Four Nobel Laureates are employed by the University and are engaged in teaching and research in health sciences and economics.
The University offers courses in humanities, sciences and professional disciplines, at levels from associate diploma to doctoral qualifications. It has 11 faculties, including a School of Graduate Studies, and the Melbourne Business School and the Victorian College of the Arts are affiliated institutions of the University.
At its regional campuses, the University offers programs in a range of areas including agriculture and rural health.
The University has a strong access and equity program with one thousand of its new undergraduate Commonwealth Supported places being reserved for disadvantaged students. Further, many of these new students will be awarded a Melbourne Access Scholarship which provides a $4000 annual contribution towards HECS and a $2000 annual allowance for up to 4 years.
In 2006, 24 per cent of all Australian Student Prize winners - and 69 percent of all Victoria winners – chose to study at the University of Melbourne, which attracts the highest enrolment of Australian under graduate full-fee students.
The University of Melbourne graduate outcomes have been consistently higher than the national average over the past five years, as demonstrated through national higher education surveys.
Number of Available Higher Education Places
In 2005, the University of Melbourne had 34,008 places (EFTSU) (42,704 student numbers).

The figures above refer to additional National Priority places only and do not indicate the total number of nursing or teaching places offered by this provider.
