About Edith Cowan University 

Edith Cowan University (ECU) You are now leaving Going to Uni Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large multi-campus institution serving communities in Western Australia and a significant cohort of international students.

 

ECU has more than 21,000 students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Approximately 4,000 of these are international onshore and offshore students originating from around 91 countries.

 

More than 400 courses are offered through four faculties:

Business and Law

Computing, Health and Science

Education and Arts, which includes the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA)

Regional Professional Studies in the south-west of Western Australia.

 

ECU works closely with private and public sector organisations, locally and overseas, in designing its study programs. Research is undertaken in collaboration with industry, particularly in the service industries and professions.

 

The University has two metropolitan campuses, located in Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and also serves Western Australia’s South West region from a campus in Bunbury, 200 km south of Perth.

 

Awarded university status in 1991, ECU has developed innovative and practical courses across a wide range of disciplines, established a vibrant research culture and attracted a growing range of quality research partners and researchers, many working at the cutting edge of their fields.


Number of Available Higher Education Places
In 2007, ECU had 15,730 places (EFTSU) and 20,605 students.


National Priority Places 

In 2004, ECU received 25 regional nursing places (EFTSU), rising to 68 places after 4 years.
In 2005, ECU will receive 55 nursing places (EFTSL), rising to 150 in 2008.
In 2005, ECU will receive 45 teaching places (EFTSL), rising to 123 in 2008.

Additional support will be provided for areas identified by the Australian Government as National Priorities. Teaching and nursing have been identified as initial key areas of National Priority, to ensure an adequate supply of high quality graduates for Australia’s schools and hospitals. The figures above refer to additional National Priority places only and do not indicate the total number of nursing or teaching places offered by this provider.
