About the Sydney College of Divinity

The Sydney College of Divinity (SCD)You are now leaving Going to Uni was incorporated in 1983 and is a community created currently through the federation of eleven separate theological institutions. These represent a wide variety of Christian traditions. The Member Institutions of the College commit themselves to sustain a teaching program of excellence at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The SCD is committed to the study of Theology and related disciplines, and it is both diverse in its theological traditions and inclusive in its functioning. The Bachelor of Theology remains a central award which embodies the College’s mission to provide both theological education generally, as well as ministerial preparation.

From its outset, the Sydney College of Divinity has been more than an arrangement for the purposes of accreditation. The founding Member Institutions were committed to a genuinely ecumenical endeavour in which, while retaining their autonomy and ecclesial traditions, they would collaborate with, and support each other, as a College. The Member Institutions have found that the mutual encouragement and accountability to one another as members of the College has both enhanced their academic standing of teaching and learning, and strengthened their Christian ministry and witness in Sydney and beyond.

All of the awards and degrees of the Sydney College of Divinity are approved by the NSW Department of Training and Education. Several of the awards are also accredited in Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory . Awards range from Diplomas in Theology and Ministry, through to Doctoral Degrees in Theology, Ministry and Philosophy.
