FEE-HELP students
All students are advised to check for errors in the CAN


Receiving the Commonwealth Assistance Notice

Your provider will send you a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) after the census date if you have received Commonwealth assistance.

Commonwealth supported students

If you are a Commonwealth supported student, your CAN will include information on:

  • the units of study for which you have received Commonwealth assistance
  • your student contribution amounts
  • your Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) usage
  • the amount of any up-front payments you have made
  • your HECS-HELP assistance.



FEE-HELP students


If you have applied for FEE-HELP, your CAN will include information on the:
  • tuition fees for your unit(s)
  • units of study for which you have received FEE-HELP
  • amount of any up-front payments you have made
  • loan fee for undergraduate units of study

All students are advised to check for errors in the CAN

You should check your CAN for any errors.


If you believe that any information in your CAN is incorrect, follow the steps outlined in the table.


 

Step

Action

1 Give your provider (or Open Universities Australia if relevant) a written request asking for the Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) to be corrected.
2 Your written request should: 

  • identify information in the CAN that you believe is not correct 
  • specify why you believe it is incorrect.
3 Submit your request to the appropriate officer of your provider (or Open Universities Australia) within 14 days of the date of receiving your CAN.
