Application process
Australian Postgraduate Awards are based on merit. You must apply for an APA and be selected as part of a competitive process. Each higher education provider (provider) is responsible for the application process.
Contact your provider for information on applying for a scholarship under the APA programme. Your provider will give you all necessary information on the:
- application, selection and offer processes
- selection policy
- conditions of scholarship.
Selection policy
A provider must maintain a selection policy that is publicly available. A provider must select students for an APA in accordance with its selection policy.
A provider’s selection policy will specify the following:

Offer of an APA
Your provider may offer you an APA, only if:
- your application was successful as part of a competitive process, or
- you are transferring from another higher education provider and your new provider agrees to continue your APA.

Confirmation of offer
If you are being offered an APA, then your provider must present, in writing:
- an offer of a scholarship
- details of the assistance to which you are entitled
- conditions of the scholarship.
