Scholarship amounts and indexation
The value of an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) stipend over the full year in 2005 is:
- full-time APA: $18 837, indexed annually for subsequent years
- part-time APA: $10 118, indexed annually for subsequent years.
Payment arrangements
Your higher education provider (provider) must pay you the full value of your stipend unless you commenced late or deferred your APA. If you have not enrolled for the full period of the year, then the provider must provide at least the proportion of the annual stipend for the period in which you undertook study.
The provider will make fortnightly payments of your annual stipend. Payments may only be made directly to you.

Allowances
In addition to the annual stipend, you may also be eligible for a:
- relocation allowance
- thesis allowance.
Your provider must maintain relocation and thesis allowance policies and apply these when assessing any claims for relocation and thesis allowances.

General entitlements
For each year of the scholarship, you will receive up to:
- 20 days recreation leave
- 10 days sick leave.
All leave entitlements may be accumulated for the duration of your APA. They will be forfeited when the APA is terminated.

Additional sick leave
You will also receive additional paid sick leave of up to a total of 12 weeks for the entire duration of your scholarship. You may use your sick leave entitlements to cover leave for caring responsibilities.

Maternity or parenting leave
If you have completed 12 months of your scholarship, you are entitled to paid maternity leave or parenting leave when your child is born. You are allowed a maximum of 12 weeks paid maternity or parenting leave for the entire duration of your scholarship.

Additional work
Contact your provider if you wish to work while receiving an APA. You will need to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress and that the work will not interfere with your study. Your provider will make the final decision on your request.
