You must meet international student visa requirements of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA). You must purchase and maintain a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy approved by the Department of Health and Ageing.

| Full-time HDR student |
You must be enrolled as a student:
- in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) course
- with an eligible higher education provider in Australia
- with a full-time study load.

| Research focus |
You must study in a subject area identified by the provider as one of its areas of research concentration. |
| Academic entry requirements |
You must satisfy all academic entry requirements for a Research Masters or a Research Doctorate programme. This includes English proficiency levels for international students. Your academic and English proficiency levels are determined by your provider. |
| No equivalent or higher degree |
You must not hold a qualification equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree.
If you intend to study for a Research Masters degree then you must not hold a qualification equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.
Your provider will determine if any qualifications that you hold are equivalent to or higher than your intended programme of study. |
| No .previous AusAID or IPRS |
You must not have held an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship within the two years prior to commencing your IPRS.

You must not previously have received an IPRS for a Research Doctorate degree or a Research Masters degree.
Exception: You may still be eligible if you:
- already completed your Research Masters degree on an IPRS and are now undertaking a Research Doctorate degree, or
- you converted your IPRS under specific circumstances.

| No other current Commonwealth-funded scholarships that contribute towards the course tuition component |
You must not be receiving any other scholarship under a:
- scholarship scheme to which the Commonwealth Government makes a substantial contribution for which course tuition is a component.
