Does a debt incurred prior to 2005 affect my eligibility for FEE-HELP?

If you commenced a postgraduate course of study before 1 January 2005 and you incurred a PELS debt for that course, you may be eligible for FEE-HELP under special arrangements (see Fee-paying students who commenced study before 2005).

If you obtained a loan under HECS, PELS, BOTPLS or OLDPS prior to 2005 the amount you borrowed does not affect your eligibility for FEE-HELP. Only the amount borrowed to pay tuition fees using FEE-HELP after 1 January 2005 counts towards the FEE-HELP limit.
