Can I change my payment option?

You can change your HECS-HELP payment option on or before the census date for the units of study that you enrol in as a Commonwealth supported student.  The completion of a Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form only provides an indication of your intended payment option.  Your actual payment option is determined at the end of the census date for each unit on the basis of any up front payments you have made to your provider on or before the census date.

For example, if you previously chose to obtain a HECS-HELP loan for your entire student contribution, but now wish to make an up-front payment, there is no need to fill out another form.  Simply make the payment to your higher education provider on or before the census date.  You should also be aware that your provider may set a date for up-front payments which is earlier than the census date.

Remember that if you wish to obtain a HECS-HELP loan for some or all of your student contribution, you must provide your tax file number, or a Certificate of Application, to your provider on or before the census date.
