As the recipient of Commonwealth assistance, you will be allocated a Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN). You will need your CHESSN to access your record on myUniAssist and monitor your SLE, FEE-HELP, OS-HELP and Commonwealth Scholarships balances.

The Student Learning Entitlement (SLE)

Since 1 January 2005, all eligible higher education students have received an ordinary SLE allocation, providing access to seven years of equivalent full-time study in a Commonwealth supported place.

FEE-HELP

FEE-HELP is a loan given to eligible fee-paying students to help pay part or all of their tuition fees. You can borrow up to the amount of the tuition fee being charged by your provider for your unit of study. However, over your lifetime, you can borrow only up to the FEE-HELP limit.

OS-HELP Loans


OS-HELP is a loan scheme to assist eligible undergraduate students to undertake some of their course of study overseas. You can receive two OS-HELP loans in your lifetime. Each loan relates to a given six month period. You can receive OS-HELP for overseas study periods of less than six months but you cannot receive an OS-HELP loan more than once in a given six month period. Your six month period is taken to commence on the first day that you commence your overseas study and end six months from this commencement date.

Commonwealth Scholarships (CS)

The Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) programme provides financial support to eligible undergraduate students to assist with the costs associated with higher education. There are two scholarships – one for general education costs and one for accommodation costs.
